In May 2002, I visited the village of Oklanda in the administrative division of Soroka, Bessarabia, now the Republic of Moldova, in order to visit the place where supposedly originated the family of my great-grandfather Solomon Aiklender. Although my grandmother was born in the Ukrainian city of Zhitomir, there are indications that at least his father or his father's family come from that small village near the banks of the Dniester river.
